    Texas Hold-em Poker

    Common Mistakes

    Playing too many hands

Texas hold-em is a game of extreme patience. Often people will play too many hands - either due to the excitement and wanting to participate in the action or just because they don't know any better.
If you want to try and win then don't rush in every hand rather try and learn the basic opening hands to play.
If playing correctly, you will probably be in only 2 - 3 out of every 10 hands.

    Superstition

Poker is a Game of skill and luck combined - leave your superstitions out the window, they do not apply here. If you play with patience, learn the odds, play the correct hands you will become a good player. Sometimes you will have a great day, the cards will fall as needed and sometimes no matter what hand you have, someone will still manage to beat you - this will have nothing to do with the shirt you are wearing, if your wife walked past or when you last changed your underpants. Over time the good and bad luck evens out - but if you play properly you will win more than you lose.

    Emotions

It is hard sometimes not to become emotional during play - as we are human and its part of what makes as unique - but in poker, its best to try and keep your emotions in check - if you suffer a bad beat, take a breather - you will administer your own soon enough - stop playing, take a break and try and avoid going on a tilt.
Some players tend to try and rub your face in your bad losses in order to try and get you to play badly - in cases like this turn off the chat feature.

Throwing away the end of your bankroll

Often if a player is towards the end of their bankroll for the session, they will call any hand, either to throw it away or hoping to just get lucky. 9 -10 times you will lose. DON'T throw away your money. I watched someone go down from their initial bank roll after some unlucky hands to R2.75.
They waited a few hands patiently and went all-in with their R2.75 and 4 people called - they one the main pot and went up to R11.00.
The next round they had a great hand and were all-in with R11 and two people were in the hand, which they won, and they went up to R33.
With-in half an hour they had risen to R320 with same great play and fantastic hands.

So stop throwing away the end of your bankroll, if you don't feel like playing then leave with whatever you have left - as the very old saying goes - look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves.

    4 colour card deck

Most online casinos offer the option of a 4 colour card deck and it is highly reommended to change the viewing to the 4 colour option.
By using the 4 colour cards it will help you spot flushes easier, both yours and in the community cards and avoid costly mistakes.

Playing too many low suited connectors or suited low hands

Many new playes get bewitched by low suited connectors or by two suited low cards.
Out of 16 million real table hands, where all 169 hands were ranked in accordanc eto how much money they won or lost, out of the last 10 worst performing hands, 8 were low suited connectors or low suited, with 2 - 3 suited beeing the worst hand.

Obviously as a beginner you will make mistakes, everybody makes them, even seasoned players make mistakes and their is even a list of common mistakes that pros make, but try and learn from the mistakes you make so that eventually you will become a good if not great player.

How long will that take - probably years!
